Gwendolyn Shepherd is actually a very normal 16yearold teen. Whats annoying is that her family definitely has a tad too many secrets. They all have to do with the timetravel gene that is passed down in the family. Everyone is certain that Gwens cousin Charlotte has the gene and so everything is all Charlotte all the time. Until the day Gwen out of the clear blue sky suddenly finds herself in London at the end of the 19th century. She knows right away that she and not Charlotte was born to be a time traveler even if she could certainly do without it. Just as she could do without Charlottes arrogant boyfriend Gideon de Villiers with whom she now has to forge an alliance in order to clear up the biggest secret of her family history. One thing is clear she will do everything possible to solve the ancient mysteries. What isnt clear is that one should not fall in love between the times. For that really makes things complicated!

Review

Rubinrot is a decent movie.

in these times when there is a huge focus on young adults in books and movies it is easy to label it as 'yet another young adult story' and ignore it but lets not forget that 'YA' is just another label for 'teen' and there have been teenoriented movies as long as there has been cinema so its not so bad to spend some time on one more.

so we have quite a mess with mysticism super powers conspiracy on one hand and of course a castoff schoolgirl with her own teen problems on the other.

a handsome young adult male is also in the mix of course. and so is a change of hearts friendship and deceit and yes romance.

the movie is quite watchable if you ignore the simplicity of the story. some more jokes would've been nice. acting is quite bad but luckily not horrible.

overall recommended for teens i wonder if another YA trilogy is on its way not of much scale and ambition but why not jump for some timetravel fun...
